Technology consulting · Est. 2014

The systems your business runs on, rebuilt to hold.

Northbeam Systems is an engineering-led consultancy for mid-market operators. We untangle aging platforms, connect the data trapped inside them, and hand back architecture your own team can run — documented, tested, and yours.

01Services

Six practices, one delivery model

Every engagement starts with a fixed-scope assessment and ends with a written handover. No open-ended staffing, no black boxes.

  • Systems Architecture

Target-state design for platforms that have outgrown their original shape — with a sequenced path from where you actually are today.

    • Current-state assessment
    • Reference architecture
    • Build-vs-buy analysis
  • Data & Integration

Pipelines, contracts and canonical models that let finance, ops and the warehouse floor finally agree on one number.

    • Event and API design
    • Warehouse modernization
    • Master data governance
  • Cloud Migration

Staged moves off end-of-life infrastructure, planned around your maintenance windows rather than ours.

    • Landing zone build-out
    • Workload rehost & refactor
    • Cost and capacity modeling
  • Security & Compliance

Controls designed to survive an audit and a Tuesday afternoon — mapped to SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA where they apply.

    • Threat and gap review
    • Identity & access redesign
    • Evidence automation
  • Applied Automation

Machine learning and workflow automation applied to the three or four processes where the payback is measurable, and nowhere else.

    • Opportunity sizing
    • Model & workflow delivery
    • Monitoring and drift review
  • Managed Engineering

A named, stable pod that keeps the platform healthy after go-live — with a standing exit plan from day one.

    • Named senior engineers
    • Defined SLOs and on-call
    • Quarterly architecture review

02Approach

Why teams bring us in — and why they keep us

Engineering-led, not staffed-out

The people who scope the work are the people who build it

No partner-and-pyramid handoff. The principal who runs your assessment stays on the engagement through delivery, and every recommendation is written by someone who will have to implement it.

  • Median 12 years of engineering experience across delivery staff
  • Two-week fixed-scope assessment before any long-term commitment
  • Written architecture decision records for every material choice

Built for handover

We are designing our own exit from the first week

Dependency on a consultancy is a defect, not a business model. Runbooks, test suites and infrastructure-as-code are deliverables with acceptance criteria — not artifacts we promise to write later.

  • Runbooks and IaC delivered as gated milestones
  • Pair rotation with your engineers throughout build
  • Thirty-day shadow period at reduced rate before rollover

They spent the first fortnight telling us which half of our roadmap to cancel. That advice was worth more than the build that followed — and the build went in on the weekend they said it would.

04The firm

Sixty-two engineers, three offices, one standard of work

Northbeam was founded in 2014 by four platform engineers who had spent a decade cleaning up after other people's migrations. The firm is employee-owned, deliberately mid-sized, and takes on roughly twenty engagements a year — a limit we hold to on purpose.
